Reblog if you’ve ever cried in front of the computer, alone.

I see this on my dash nearly every single day, but no one (as far as I’ve seen) really puts -why- they do. Well, here’s why I cry.

I cry because I live in a world where people are judged solely on their appearances. Where a woman is considered ugly or disgusting because of her weight, where people can bully others behind the safety of a computer screen and technology and think nothing of it.

I cry because I read news of tragedies happening in other countries, to other people, in places I know I could never afford to visit and help. News of riots, famine, genocide, suicide bombings and religious warfare.

I cry because I see all these, ‘this is my ___ they have ___ reblog if __’ on my dashboard. Instead of people signing off the computer and doing something more efficient to spread the word, they reblog and for the moment their consciences are cleared.

I cry because our dependency upon the internet, while at the same time a blessing in terms of providing a vast well of knowledge and educational tools, is also our downfall for also providing a new method of self hatred. We are bombarded by text and images, screaming at us to improve; get skinny, get fashionable, Gay is wrong, you’re stupid, you’re ugly, you should kill yourself..

I cry, but I never cry alone. I cry with all the people in front of their computers who have felt so helpless about not being able to fix the things they see on the internet, they couldn’t do anything but cry.
